BADA EXPANDS ITS PORTFOLIO OF HIGH TEMPERATURE POLYAMIDES

13.01.2021

Bada AG has successively expanded its portfolio of high-temperature polyamides lately and is now ready to provide solutions for all conceivable kinds of requirements.

The product group Badamid PPA-HT was designed for applications at high operating temperatures. Dimensional stability under heat of almost 300°C, exceedingly high rigidity and extremely low water absorptionhygroscopicity are significant properties of these products, which are mainly provided as fiber-reinforced grades. with fibre-reinforcement. Here, filling degreesfiber loadings up to 60% are available. Due to low water absorptionhygroscopicity, constant product properties can be guaranteed throughout the part’s lifespan.

The product class Badamid PPA-GP shows quite similar properties. Compared to Badamid PPA-HT, its dimensional stability under heat is slightly lower and its water absorptionhygroscopicity slightly higher. Its great advantage lies in the processability at mould temperatures below 100°C. This eliminates the need for oil-tempered tools and reduces cycle times in comparison to Badamid PPA-HT.

If the dimensional stability under heat can be slightly reduced and the focus is on good processability and excellent surface quality, Bada offers a series of blends or alloys of aromatic and aliphatic polyamides. Due to the excellent flowability of the compounds, reinforcement degrees of up to 65% and above are possible:

Badamid PPA-HPX shows a similar mechanical and thermal profile as PA66, however, it offers constant properties throughout the part‘s lifespan due to its lower water absorptionhygroscopicity. The special formulation allows PA66-like processing conditions, mould temperatures less than/equal to 100°C and yields parts with particularly good surface quality.

A slight modification of the blend partners results in lower heat resistance for Badamid PPA-HP2X compared to Badamid PPA-HPX. This type’s major advantage is its extremely high weld line strength in complex parts enabled by the above-mentioned modification. Processability and surface quality even top Badamid PPA-HPX.

Badamid PPA-HP is a compromise between dimensional stability under heat and processability. Compared to Badamid PPA-HPX, heat distortion temperature and water absorptionhygroscopicity are slightly higher. Processing and mould temperatures must be set higher here, however, this will result in parts with brilliant surface quality and the aforementioned higher dimensional stability under heat.

Last but not least, the PPA-Portfolio is completed by Badamid PPA-HP2. Compared to Badamid PPA-HP, a different blend partner yields lower dimensional stability under heat. On the other hand, a particularly high weld line stability can be achieved with PA66-like processing conditions, similar to PPA-HP2X. The other properties are like those of Badamid PPA-HP.

The Badamid PPA product line is mainly provided with fibre-reinforcement. In addition, further modifications are available upon request, e.g., with flame retardants, impact modification and tailor-made dyeing.
